Abstract: This study aims to develop a measure to assess sleep literacy and interpret sleep disparities in children through a social-ecological model. While the speculated causes of sleep disparities in adults are likely present from a young age, there may be additional perpetuating factors in the continuation of disparities across generations. One such influence may be parental sleep literacy and access to health-related resources. Understanding the perpetuating or protective role of parental knowledge and behaviors, neighborhood conditions, and racial/ethnic discrimination could offer a foundation for reducing sleep disparities across the lifespan.
